Tenacity

Goal:

Dealing with the problem of accepting a crisis, personal and social defeat, with a special emphasis on how these problems affect young people.

Area of project activities:

Youth

Project activity area:

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia

The project is inspired by the dramas "The Ladies Choose" by Anthony McCarten & Stephen Sinclair and "The Steamship of Perseverance" by Charles Vidak, which talk about people who have been defeated by the social context, who have lost hope and decided not to fight anymore.

To leave the country or to stay here living without struggle, without meaning. These people face the questions: What is really important to me? Will it be better somewhere else? Are we able to accept personal and social defeat, get up, look at the situation rationally and continue? Continue to live with our personal and social problems?

The problem of accepting a crisis, a personal and social defeat, is an important common theme for people in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, and it especially torments young people who have no memories of a better past. They grew up in an environment that experienced great disappointments, changes in lifestyles and value systems.

We used dramas as a starting point for basic research and improvisation workshops in order to gain a deeper understanding of the situation and condition of young people from the region. The material obtained through the workshops will be the basis for two theatre performances that will be created: one with students and young graduates of acting and directing from the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo, and the other with a professional theatre team from the independent theatre Kroz prozor fabrika.

Sarajevo, and the other with a professional theatre team from the independent theatre Kroz prozor fabrika. In the project "Tenacity?", Altteatar with its partners Kroz prozor fabrika from Belgrade and the Academy of Performing Arts Sarajevo will create two theatre plays through which we want to highlight the existence of choices that the individual has in BiH and Serbia.

We will ask the question: is the solution to the problem to go somewhere else, what needs to be done to face reality and take responsibility for one's life. What is really important to us? And can we really do without it?
