Association of Performing Artists, Altteatar, was founded by a group of theater and drama artists in 2004 with the intention of using culture and art to empower youth to act proactively in their local communities. Through its projects and activities, Altteatar works on creating safe surroundings for youth to be able to express themselves freely, advance their communication skills and learn to think critically to actively take part in solving challenges they are facing in their local communities. Altteatar welcomes young people regardless of their formal education and helps their voices to be heard and spread, through theater, further in other communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in the region. Young artivists equally take part in creating activities based on culture and art which helps them to improve their professional skills, collaborate with other artivists on national and international level and find their place in the world of art. In the last few years, Altteatar has enriched the theater and drama scene in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as non-formal education designed to encourage young people to learn through theater and art and to understand the importance and power of creative expression. By raising awareness of the importance of culture and art in general, young people, artists and activists, stand for creating dialogue as well as developing tolerance and empathy.
